Campaign Story
* Typical cost of capstone projects (including registrations, travel and supplies) is about $1200.
* I am trying to raise $600 as family and school will cover the rest.
Goals for My Fundraiser:
Supporting my capstone project
*** I plan to pursue the project though participation in TSA activities like competitions and community service. ***
The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) that helps students explore STEM through hands-on projects, competitions, and leadership opportunities.
What is ‘Social Justice Data Advocacy for Environmental Conservation’
A project where the student collaborates with local NGOs to gather, analyze, and translate environmental justice data into actionable policy proposals.
Why I am pursuing this project (My why)
- I am a ‘Reflective Thinker’ personality type person with strong ‘advocate’ business potential.
- I’m really into being an environmental scientist, especially when it comes to policy and justice. I’m also great at conserving the environment. So, I thought, why not use these skills to work on a project as an analyst for social justice? My goal? To bring honesty and fairness to politics all over the world..
My plan of action: Competitions and Activities
Career Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) to join:
DECA – The primary CTSO focused on business competitions and leadership, ideal for developing advocacy, strategic planning, and policy analysis skills.
FBLA – Offers experiences in business management and competitive events, which enhance skills in administration, data analysis, and strategic planning, all critical for leading advocacy projects.
Competitions
This introductory competition aligns with the student’s passion project by emphasizing data collection, analysis, and interpretation of environmental indicators, which are central to social justice data advocacy.
DECA – Entrepreneurship Challenge
As an advanced competition, it encourages innovative business planning for social change, allowing the student to propose a viable model for a social justice data advocacy initiative.
This advanced competition allows the student to create a comprehensive plan integrating social justice with environmental conservation, thus strengthening the overall advocacy project.
This introductory competition uses digital media to tell powerful stories, an essential aspect for communicating the importance of environmental conservation and social justice effectively.
Community Service:
Local Environmental Awareness and Data Advocacy Workshop
Why it fits: This activity directly complements the passion project by engaging the community in understanding local environmental challenges through data-driven insights, reinforcing the social justice aspect.
Implementation: Organize a series of workshops at community centers in zip code 30057 where participants collect local environmental data, learn basic data analysis, and develop actionable advocacy strategies.
Skills Development: Community engagement, event planning, public speaking, data collection
